Art Nouveau in Rome: The Casina delle Civette, visionary and mysterious residence of Prince Giovanni Torlonia
Casina delle Civette
Guided tour as part of European Heritage Days 2014.
A multitude of richly ornamented spaces create this singular construction situated in the park of Villa Torlonia. Decorative elements and stained glass depicting subjects from nature create a magical atmosphere rich with symbols that allow the personality of the building’s “esoteric” benefactor to shine through.
The guided tour will be conducted by the artist Antonia Ciampi, who through her works has examined the meaning of this extraordinary building and its famous inhabitant Giovanni Torlonia Jr. and will be enriched with the presence of Saverio Mazzoni, professional actor, as narrator who will read texts and excerpts dedicated to the prince and to his home.
The meeting point is at the entrance to the Casina delle Civette. Visitors are urged to pick up their tickets in advance at the ticket office in via Nomentana 70.
